Why the Balance is different

Reverse osmosis removes almost everything dissolved in water, including the minerals that give it body. Some people never notice. Others find unmineralised RO water tastes thin or slightly flat, which is the single most common reason people are disappointed with an otherwise excellent system.

The CROSS 90 Balance solves that in the last cartridge. Its combined carbon block and mineralising postfilter adds calcium back after purification, bringing the finished water to 40 to 70 mg/L TDS. Pure, but with something in it.

Key features

  • Five stages, three cartridges. A complex prefilter, a 600 GPD membrane and a combined carbon block and mineralising postfilter. Fewer parts to buy and fewer connections to leak than a conventional multi-housing system.
  • Removes up to 99.8% of contaminants, including PFAS, chlorine, heavy metals and the dissolved minerals that cause limescale.
  • No storage tank. Direct flow means water is purified as you draw it, so nothing sits stored under your sink and the cupboard stays usable.
  • 60% recovery rate. Around six litres of every ten entering the system reach your glass, considerably better than older RO systems that discard three or four litres per litre produced.
  • Smart faucet with LED status. The tap itself shows cartridge life, with colour-coded warnings and an audible alert as capacity runs down. One beep means the cartridge is nearing the end, two means it needs replacing.
  • Leak sensor and automatic flushing. The system clears the membrane by itself and monitors for leaks continuously.
  • Dry cartridge changes in under 7 minutes. Twisting a cartridge out shuts the inlet flow automatically, so nothing spills into the cupboard. No tools required.
  • Booster pump fitted as standard. Keeps performance stable rather than depending on strong mains pressure.

What you'll notice

No chlorine taste, odour or aftertaste
Water that tastes full rather than flat
Better tea and cleaner coffee extraction
No white scale film inside the kettle
Clear ice cubes
No more carrying bottled water home

Purified water TDS 40 to 70 mg/L
Mineralisation Calcium
Dimensions (H x W x D) 435 x 140 x 458 mm
Weight 11 kg
Inlet pressure 2 to 5 bar
Power supply 230 V, 50 Hz
Water connections ½″ and ⅜″

Feed water Cold mains tap water

Source water requirements

pH 6.5 to 8.5
Total dissolved solids 1,500 mg/L or below
Hardness Under 500 mg/L CaCO₃
Free chlorine 0.5 mg/L or below
Total iron 0.3 mg/L or below
Manganese 0.1 mg/L or below

The system is designed for treated mains tap water that already meets drinking water standards. It is not a treatment for water of unknown microbiological quality, and private well supplies normally need iron, manganese or disinfection treatment upstream before an RO system is fitted.

Cartridge replacement

Cartridge Interval
CF complex prefilter Every 12 months
MCB carbon block and mineralising postfilter Every 12 months
600 GPD RO membrane Every 24 months

The faucet and the front panel both signal when a change is due. After fitting a new cartridge, hold the matching reset button for 5 seconds. The indicator blinks purple twice and then turns solid blue.

What's included

  • CROSS 90 Balance filter housing with the full cartridge set fitted
  • Smart faucet for purified water with LED status indicator
  • 3-way connector and drain saddle
  • Pack of tubes and detachable power supply
  • User manual
  • Professional installation

Installation (Leinster only)

  • Included in the price, with no hidden charges
  • Fitted by NuAqua-certified technicians
  • Needs a 230 V socket within reach of the unit. The standard power cable is around 1 metre
  • Mains pressure should sit between 2 and 5 bar
  • The unit stands 435 mm tall and 140 mm wide, so it fits most standard under-sink cabinets
  • Granite, quartz or composite worktops without a spare tap hole need core drilling, quoted separately

Frequently asked questions

What does the mineralisation actually do?

It adds calcium back into the water after purification, bringing the finished water to 40 to 70 mg/L TDS instead of near zero. The effect is on taste and mouthfeel. Water from a mineralised system tastes fuller and rounder than water straight off an RO membrane.

Will the added calcium cause limescale?

No. At 40 to 70 mg/L the mineral content is a fraction of untreated hard water, and nowhere near enough to scale a kettle.

How much water goes to drain?

The recovery rate is 60%, so roughly six litres of every ten entering the system come out purified. Older tank-based RO systems commonly discard three or four litres for every litre produced.

How long do the cartridges last?

The prefilter and the mineralising postfilter run 12 months each, the membrane 24 months. The system tells you when each is due, and swapping one takes under 7 minutes with no tools and no spilled water.

Is it noisy?

The booster pump runs at roughly 40 to 50 dB while producing water, comparable to a quiet fridge. Most audible noise comes from vibration where the unit contacts cabinet walls or rigid pipework, which anti-vibration feet or rubber dampers reduce considerably.

Can it feed a 3-in-1 designer tap instead of the supplied faucet?

Usually yes. The system uses a standard 1/4 inch tube connection and most 3-in-1 taps either include an adaptor or accept a standard fitting. The tap must have a genuinely separate internal channel for filtered water so it cannot mix with the mains supply. Note that using a different tap means losing the LED cartridge status built into the supplied smart faucet.
