Why you need both, not one

A softener and a drinking water filter solve different problems, which is why buying just one often leaves people half-satisfied.

A softener works on the incoming main and protects everything downstream: your boiler, washing machine, dishwasher, showers and taps. What it does not do is purify. A reverse osmosis system does the opposite. It produces exceptionally pure water, but only at one tap. Fitted together, you get limescale protection through the whole house and genuinely clean drinking water in the kitchen.

The CLACK Cabinet Water Softener

A high-performance, space-efficient softener built around the market-leading CLACK valve, in odourless BPA-free construction and a compact cabinet that fits easily in a kitchen or utility room.

  • Reduce energy bills. Hard water reduces heating efficiency. This system restores your boiler and water heater performance, helping you save up to 24% annually on energy costs.
  • Softer, healthier skin. Say goodbye to dry, irritated skin and dull hair. Soft water feels cleaner and helps soap and shampoo lather more easily. Especially helpful for eczema or sensitive skin.
  • Eliminate limescale. Untreated water can reduce flow by up to 75% in as little as 18 months. This system prevents that build-up completely, protecting your pipes and appliances.
  • Cut detergent costs. Use up to 50% less soap, shampoo and laundry detergent, with better results.
  • Extend appliance lifespan. Your washing machine, dishwasher and water heater last longer, work better and need less maintenance.

The Ecosoft CROSS MAX

  • 800 GPD membrane at 2 litres a minute. Fast enough to keep pace with normal kitchen use rather than the slow trickle people associate with older RO units.
  • Tank-free direct flow. Water is purified the moment you open the tap. No storage tank means nothing sits under your sink going stale, and the cupboard stays usable.
  • Reduces PFAS, chlorine and heavy metals along with the dissolved minerals that cause scale.
  • 67% recovery rate. Roughly two-thirds of the water entering the system reaches your glass, against as little as 30% on conventional RO.
  • Built-in booster pump. Works on inlet pressure from 1 bar, so performance does not depend on strong mains pressure.
  • Leak sensor and auto shut-off. The system stops itself after 10 minutes of continuous running, with a floor-level leak sensor as a second line of defence.
  • Automatic membrane flushing after every use and after 24 hours idle, extending membrane life.
  • Tool-free cartridge changes in under five minutes. Two cartridges, no plumber required.

Important customer notice

To keep your install quick and safe, please note:

  • A compliant, fixed, elevated electrical point must be provided by you
  • We do not carry out any electrical work
  • A wastewater outlet must be available within 2 feet of the softener
  • A small hole may be drilled in the wall for a fail-safe overflow system
  • The RO system needs a standard 230V 3-pin socket under the sink
  • RO inlet pressure must sit between 1 and 4 bar, with 3.5 bar optimal. A pressure reducing valve is required above 4 bar to keep the warranty valid
  • Granite, quartz or composite worktops without a spare tap hole need core drilling, quoted separately
"No more limescale on the taps and showers, and our skin feels so much softer. The install was quick and tidy."

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need an RO system if the softener already treats the water?

Softening and purifying are different jobs. A softener exchanges the calcium and magnesium that cause limescale, which protects your pipes and appliances, but it does not remove chlorine, PFAS or other dissolved contaminants, and it is not intended to improve drinking water. The RO system does that, at the kitchen tap.

Why the CLACK softener over the standard NuAqua cabinet unit?

The valve is the part that determines how well a softener performs and how long it lasts, and CLACK is a trusted international brand with market-leading reliability. It is our premium option.

Is the price all-inclusive?

Yes. Both systems, delivery, installation, setup and testing are all included, with no hidden fees.

Does the RO system add minerals back into the water?

No. The CROSS MAX produces pure water at 5 to 15 mg/L TDS with no remineralisation stage. If you would prefer calcium added back for taste, the CROSS 90 Balance is the version to look at.

Will it work if my water pressure is low?

The CROSS MAX has a built-in booster pump and operates on inlet pressure from 1 bar upward. Where mains pressure exceeds 4 bar, a pressure reducing valve is required to keep the warranty valid.

How often do the RO cartridges need changing?

Both cartridges are rated at 2,000 litres, typically about a year of normal household use. The built-in indicator tells you when, and replacement is tool-free.

Does the softener have a strong plastic odour?

No. It is built with odourless, BPA-free materials.

Are there other options?

Yes. Explore our full range of water filtration packages here.
