Aplos Alpha Replacement Filters
Replacement cartridges for the Aplos Alpha reverse osmosis system, including the inline mineral filter if you have the upgrade fitted. Buy the one you need, or take the complete set and save. Changes are tool-free and take minutes.
Which one do you need?
Every year: the CFII composite filter and the NAC post carbon filter. The CFII does the most work and clogs first, and the NAC is the final polish before the tap. Both are on a 12 month cycle.
Every two to three years: the RO membrane as well, changed alongside a fresh CFII and NAC. The complete set covers that year.
If you have the mineral upgrade: the inline mineral filter is on the same 12 month cycle, so add it to whatever you are buying.
Not sure where you are in the cycle? If you cannot remember changing anything in the last year, start with the CFII and the NAC. If you are not sure whether you have the mineral upgrade, look for a slim inline cartridge in the tubing between the unit and your tap.
The cartridges
Stages 1 to 3
CFII Composite 3-in-1 Filter
Replace every 12 months
- Removes large particles, dirt, rust, sand and other sediment
- Removes chlorine and chloramine, along with the unpleasant tastes and odours they carry
- Protects and extends the reverse osmosis membrane's service life
Three filtration stages in one cartridge. This is the hardest-working filter in the system, and keeping it to a strict 12 month cycle matters because chlorine reaching the membrane is what shortens its life more than anything else.
Stage 4
RO Membrane, 600 GPD
Replace every 2 to 3 years
- Effectively reduces dissolved salts, hardness, heavy metals, nitrates and microplastics
- Patented membrane technology rated for three years and beyond
- Restores full output if your tap has slowed or TDS has crept up
The purification stage itself, and the most expensive part of the system. Keeping the CFII fresh is what gets you the full three years from it.
Stage 5
NAC Nano Anti-Bacterial Post Carbon Filter
Replace every 12 months
- Nano anti-bacterial post activated carbon
- Final polishing filter to enhance clarity and freshness
- Double protection against post-membrane bacterial contamination
The last thing your water passes through before it reaches the tap. It sharpens the taste and guards the cartridge itself against contamination between changes. Changed annually alongside the CFII.
Optional Upgrade
Inline Mineral Filter
Replace every 12 months, with the CFII and NAC
- Adds calcium and magnesium back into the purified water
- Rounds out the taste and lifts the pH back toward neutral
- Only needed if the mineral upgrade was fitted with your system
Reverse osmosis removes the minerals that give water body along with everything else, which is why some people find unmineralised RO water tastes thin. This cartridge puts a small, controlled amount back on the way to the tap, nowhere near the levels that cause limescale.
Complete three-filter set
All three cartridges together: CFII composite, 600 GPD membrane and NAC post carbon. This is what your system needs every second or third year, when the membrane comes due at the same time as the annual CFII and NAC, and it works out cheaper than buying the three separately.
A full refresh of every stage in one go, so the system leaves your kitchen performing exactly as it did on the day it was fitted.
With the mineral upgrade? Choose the set with the mineral filter included and it comes in at €30 rather than the €34.95 the cartridge costs on its own.
Changing them yourself
The Alpha is designed for DIY cartridge changes with no tools. Turn off the feed water valve, open the drinking tap to release pressure, twist the old cartridge out and the new one in. Flush the system through and discard the first fill before drinking, as new carbon sheds a little harmless dust on first use.
If you would rather not, our technicians service Aplos Alpha systems across Leinster. The service covers both the cartridge change and a full system check.
Time for a change if you have noticed
- The tap running slower than it used to
- Chlorine taste or smell creeping back
- A rising TDS reading if you test with a meter
- Cloudiness or particles in the glass
- Simply 12 months since the last cartridge change
Frequently asked questions
Do these fit any reverse osmosis system?
No. These are specific to the Aplos Alpha. They are not the standard 10 inch by 2.5 inch cartridges used by conventional multi-housing RO systems, so they will not fit those and vice versa.
Which one should I buy?
The CFII composite and the NAC post carbon every year. In the year the membrane is due, every two to three years, take the complete set, which gives you all three together for less than buying them separately.
Why change the CFII so much more often than the membrane?
Because it is doing the dirty work. It catches the sediment and strips the chlorine, and chlorine is what degrades an RO membrane fastest. A tired CFII lets chlorine through and quietly shortens the life of the expensive cartridge behind it, so changing the cheap one on time is what protects the costly one.
How do I know if I have the mineral upgrade?
Look for a slim inline cartridge in the tubing between the unit and your drinking tap, separate from the three cartridges in the unit itself. If it was fitted, it was an optional extra at the time of purchase rather than part of the standard Alpha.
Will the mineral filter cause limescale?
No. It adds a small, controlled amount of calcium and magnesium for taste, a fraction of the levels in untreated hard water and not enough to scale a kettle.
Do I need tools?
No. The cartridges twist in and out by hand.
Do I need to flush the system afterwards?
Yes. New carbon sheds a little harmless dust on first use, so run the system through and discard the first fill before you drink from it.
Can you fit them for me?
Yes. Our technicians service Aplos Alpha systems across Leinster, covering the cartridge change and a full system check. Call (01) 699 1055 to book.
